St. Matthew Parish is pleased to offer FOUR (4) $2,500.00 scholarships for any soon-to-be high school graduate belonging to St. Matthew Parish. The scholarships will be awarded based on the following criteria: The applicant must be a member of St. Matthew Parish and attend Mass at one of the churches comprising St. Matthew Parish (All Saints Church, Etna, St. Bonaventure Church, Glenshaw, Holy Spirit Church, Millvale, St. Aloysius Church, Reserve Township).
Currently a high school senior who will be enrolled full-time in college for their freshman year.
The student will note on the application evidence of involvement in parish life, interests, activities, and prior scholastic achievement (must have a 3.0 GPA through the end of Junior Year).
Applicants must have the endorsement of their Guidance Counselor on their application attesting they are qualified to receive this scholarship.
Applicant’s current high school transcript.
Submit a 650 word or less essay. (It may be the same one submitted to colleges as part of the Common Application.)
Submit a headshot photograph.
Preference will be given to a student who has committed to Duquesne University (honoring Fr. Young’s initial wishes). However, candidates attending other colleges will be considered based on the above criteria. Proof of enrollment is required through a course schedule for the fall semester with the student’s name, an official letter confirming enrollment from the admissions office, or a tuition invoice.
This is a one-time scholarship for first-year college students only. It is NOT a renewable scholarship. Each year, the scholarship will be awarded only to newly graduating high school seniors who meet the above criteria. The award will be presented at a 4:00 pm Saturday evening Mass celebrated at St. Aloysius Church.
The application can be accessed via the Parish website in the Parish Document Section. Please download to complete, print for signatures and submission. Applications are due by May 20 (no applications will be accepted after this date). Please return the application to the parish to the attention of the Parish Business Manager at the above address. Scholarship awards will be determined by a Board of Review of parishioners from the Parish. All applicants will be notified of their status by June 17.
